What are visitors going to see when they first arrive at your site?

You don’t get a second chance to make a good first impression as they say and on the internet something more interesting or exciting is always just two clicks away.

Ensuring that you’re maximising your potential for sales, readers, usage or whatever measure you take of your small business websites success, comes down to grabbing the new visitor immediately and engaging them toward the most obvious outcomes that provide value for both your visitors, customers and your business.

Let’s talk about the most important things that visitors want to see when they arrive at your website or blog.

Link to your RSS feed and subscription by email

You must be familiar with the icon. You should make it visible so that your readers to ask that from where can they subscribe to your RSS feed. Along with that you can also provide a form so that they can subscribe by email as readers want more options. Give them everything they want. Note one thing: Don’t display your feed burner if its below 100 because people want to see that if that is large or not. You should also keep in mind that some people viewing your site may not be internet savvy. You can provide a post about RSS so that the people who don’t know it can even use it.

Small blurb about your site

Whenever people surf internet they move at an incredibly fast pace. Everyone wants interesting information within seconds or they may be on their way to find anything else. If the topics you have posted are not clear and not visible in first few seconds they can leave your site and go away because it frustrates the readers to read a 2000 word about section to figure out what the content is about. You should make your purpose clear , around your navigation or even in the sidebar. This is a technique I swear by, if your visitors are going to be distracted or need more information it’s really important to have the basic information about your business right there in front of them, which might even include a phone number and definitely an email contact.

You’ve got to remember that some people are searching out of urgency, they may not be looking for a blog post at all but just to talk to someone who knows what theyre doing and give them the advice they need.

Simple and consistent navigation

When you are creating your main navigation bar, make it limited for the main pages. A navigation bar with 30 links is not simple or inviting. Readers want to explore new areas of their choice when they get to your site. All of them are mostly dependable on navigational bar to go through the site. If they don’t they will get frustrated and leave your site. Some important pages that must be in navigation bar which also helps readers are: Home, About, Archives, Best Of, and Contact.

This has to be so obvious, because internet users are so used to getting a premium experience that they get really frustrated quickly when theyre not getting what they want from your site.

I know you try to see your site from an objective perspective but you should still have other people look at it and see what they think of the usability and interface.

Post Title

This must always be in direct, complete and plain view as soon as someone enters your site. Its true for your single pages post and even for the main page o your site. After all, the end reason that people are going to your site is for your content, so make sure it is your main focus! Using a big font may have a pleasant look and can attract readers. And if you are going to put images then don’t forget to make them in full view along with the title.

This is about giving something back to the reader to hook them in, they’re usually there for the information, so try and engage them with it as best you can to get them to engage with your blog content long enough to look over the propositions you have on offer.

Your latest promotion or product

Are you running a contest? Did you just release a new e-book? Did a hot new product just come out? You must make sure that readers are getting to know about them. It can be done by putting some information above the fold. It does not have to be a lot, just a small, enticing image with a sentence or two would do the work for you. Think about your favorite site whenever you are deciding to put a fold on your site. What elements do they have above the fold that really drew you into their site? You should learn from them who are already successful in this field and that will help you a lot.

This is as I mentioned earlier, the way I use my blogs is to hook people in who are searching for specific content and then make sure that the propositions are laid out for them.

We want RSS subscribers, We want customers to contact us and begin the sales process or we want to engage them by delivering propositions that we know will address their needs.

Having a website is like owning a newspaper; you’re not running it for yourself, your running it so that people can see what you have to offer. In order to achieve this, there are tons of things that you’ll do to ensure that your site becomes popular. Search engines can help your sites popularity grow and if you use this to your advantage then people will come to your site. But sometimes you’re site is on the fifth page in a search and you wonder “why did that happen?” Well here are some of the mistakes you’ve been making

Running a highly animated or flash based website. Not everyone likes flash websites, they take a lot of time to load up completely and sometimes the animation isn’t worth the wait either because it’s not what their looking for or it just sucks. Also, it’s not everybody that has high speed internet connections. These are the people your highly animated sight will piss off greatly. A lot of web professionals try to avoid flash pages and even Google prefers to put the text based websites before the flash websites. Check it, its true.

If you don’t pay attention to the data on the web. Some phrases are very popular searches on the web. If you pay attention to the web you’d notice that some keywords are particularly popular among lot of web researchers. When you pay attention to this you can use this to your advantage. Adding these keywords to articles in your webpage will help improve traffic to your site.

Hoard links. Remember what mother told you, “a good turn deserves another” if you don’t provide links to other websites on your site, they’ll definitely not be sending anybody to you and your site won’t grow. Provide links to other sites who have information similar to yours and they’ll return the favor and with interest too as your website’s ranking will go up in on the search pages.

Don’t strategize. If you don’t keep developing strategies to stay on top, one day someone will come up and down you’ll go. You must continue to research the most popular keywords and add them to the posts on your site.

Don’t blog. Blogging is a way of inviting people to have lunch at your site. If you don’t have this, those that have will move ahead of you as people would rather go to a place that’s more inviting than one that’s just plain and old fashioned and is not frequently updated.

Provide links to spam sites or virus infected sites. If your site provides links to spam sites, you’re in big trouble. People are afraid of getting viruses on the web as it is, a site that links to spam sites or virus infected sites is not at all the best way to invite people. Plus Google will not encourage people to come to you’re site. Your site will come last among searches.

Change pages without providing redirects. This is bad. How do I find what moved out yesterday. Make sure your links are updated as you update your site.

If you’re making these mistakes then you better get your house in order… And Fast!

Email me, Matt @ Kurb to talk about affordable and effective online marketing for your venture or project: kurbpromo@gmail.com

1. First, you should get your site listed on Google Local Business Centre which helps in putting your site in Google’s Maps index and even on 1st page of the search results for certain locla business searches.

You can get your Local Business Listing at - http://www.google.com/local/add

2. Then you should submit your site to these 3 search engines :

• Google – http://www.google.com/addurl/

• DMOZ – http://www.dmoz.org/add.html

• Yahoo - https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit

3. After that you should to install Google Analytics on your site which will help to easily track the visitors. It’s free and and invaluable tool for measuring market performance of your website.

http://www.google.com/support/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66983

4. You should setup an email signature so along with your mail messages you are also providing contact details, your name, business name and web address. You can also make use of a polite PS to promote special offers.

Check here - http://email.about.com/od/signatures/Email_Signatures.htm

5. Tracking and storing the emails that you sent to contacts leads to customers in an online location which can be accessed 24/7. It’s easy and convenient for your small business operations because it stores your emails in a safe online manner that can be accessed from any computer any time. Mostly an online Contact Manager, Address Book and Customer Relationship Management tool are rolled into one for better use. As they are on your site you can highrise to:

Before calling your colleague at the printer you can take a review.

You should see all the follow ups scheduled for the week.

You should set a reminder for your client to say ‘thank-you’ next Friday.

You should keep all important emails of one customer on one page.

Also schedule a follow-up sales call with a lead in 30 days.

Enter notes from a call with a potential client.

Visit – www.HighriseHQ.com and learn more about their free start-up account.

6. You should also create a lens on Squidoo because its free and easy to create.

• A signpost about something that matters to you.

• A place to recommend your favorite stuff.

• A popular way to get found more on the web

And don’t forget to include your link in the introduction as Google loves the content which is posted on Squidoo. And subsequently it will help in improving the page rank of your site. Even it will provide people and the world more ways to find your site.

Get Started - http://www.squidoo.com/wizard/step1

Need more help? http://www.squidoo.com/creating-lenses

7. You should also keep measuring you marketing that what’s helping and working and what’s not. Also keeping a record of how people found your site and business will help you. Yu must do this for all the calls you got.

You can also register for slightly different versions of web domain and can use them in different marketing campaigns. (i.e. use a .net.nz for one, .co.nz for another, .info for yet another)

This is because you can set up redirects for these domains to your normal web address and can count every single visit that gets referred from them. (as long as you’ve installed Google Analytics in Step 3)

That would allow you to measure radio adverts, print adverts, brochures, etc. Then there would be no more guessing that whether your marketing is driving leads to your site or not.

And also ask your web developer to add a small drop down menu of options as to how people found you. You can also create your own form to replace your current address link on our site.

Visit: http://www.formlogix.com/Form_Maker.aspx

Small businesses need marketing - I just told you my 10 best internet marketing strategies for 2009.

But some strategies work better for some businesses than others.

At the moment, as you may know if you’ve been reading (yeah right! haha) I’ve launched a whole lot of new businesses online, and I’ve been talking recently about breaking down the steps to get your online business or small business website ready to start marketing your services.

I talked about this recently, using successful small business marketing strategies to make websites effective and viable as soon as possible.

So I’ve been doing a lot of copywriting, a lot of which has been posted up on this blog, covering different aspects of the online services I offer, as I peel them off my main online marketing platform into individual niche services such as PPC and SEO services.

Not to mention the recent power post on my top 10 internet marketing strategies for small business in 2009 where website development was number #1 because you can have all the marketing clout in the world but if your website sucks then you may aswell forget it.

It’s got to look professional, provide convincing copy and generally convey a compelling experience.

But now I am generating the basic content I need I must admit that as soon as the content is up and the designers have developed a concept for the visual theme, so that the sites are at least established . . . which business will I start marketing first?

Which will become the most profitable quickly with the least effort?

Let me just cross analyse and compare.

Idea #1: Is a service I have cheap access to which I am aiming to market locally alongside

Idea#2: Is a high demand, high value product but in a niche im inexperienced in

Idea #3: Is of course my own specialized services in SEO and PPC

Idea #4: Is a low value product in a highly competitive industry but has proven results if you’re committed if you put capital into it, but again im inexperinced in this niche

Idea #5: Is a cheaper value proposition for blog promotion. This service is much lower intensity then any of the other digital coaching services we offer, but expands to a much wider audience.
If you read my top 10 you’ll know I rated adwords as the top marketing strategy after basically just having a decent website to start with.

This is the point where I take my list and comparing this to my list of ideas and determining how successful each of these strategies will be.

1: Website Development
2: Google Adwords PPC
3: Blog Promotion
4: Online Video Marketing
5: SEO
6: Email Marketing
7: Article Marketing
8: Social Media Marketing
9: Viral Marketing
10: Community Building
What kind of sites would ppc adwords work for?

Adwords would work for Idea #1. But not #2 or #3, because the market is too competitive, or rather, I’m not at a level where I can be competitive in it. Again the market for #5 is somewhat undefined, however, bloggers are more sophisticated generally then to engage an online brand that is so freash and hasn’t been developed.

So adwords could work for #1 and #4, but both may require more than I’m used to spending because I haven’t tweaked the sites to adjust for the kind of business I’m doing. It’s as I say, I’m moving into this quickly and I still don’t KNOW that the site will convert, it’s likely to be more expensive then my flagship sites which I’ve been optimising for so long.

I need to be aware of how much I can spend to get a sale. With #4 I have to spend to get sales, but it’s all in the ratios.

With a lot of these other strategies, blogging, video, and more social / interactive stuff, it just takes so much time I wouldn’t use it unless I was building a contribution to my core activity.

But if adwords won’t work, what will? We must leverage SEO, blogging and article marketing to get the soonest possible results. How will this work?

Well we know you’d do your keyword research, and then we have to write up to 10 pages, 3-5000 words all up anyway to provide decent base content for our niche site. The most likely way you would do that is with a blog, and you’d follow up that with some SEO link building.

My suggestion is that when you’re preparing all that base content for your site you actually make a real effort with up to 3 of the articles/blog posts so that you can leverage them immediately for article marketing.

You can always contact us if you need freelance copywriting and/or article marketing so you can continue to create articles and content for promotional purposes, but the main sales copy, the important copy that your visitors will read when they decide whether to pursue a purchase, should be written by someone who knows your business well, even if that’s you - though we can edit up your landing and sales copy for oomph as long as we have enough of an idea from you about exactly what it is that makes your proposition so special.
But which of my new business ideas will SEO and content marketing strategies work for?

With #2, it’s my only choice, mainly because the demand is so high I will get search interest and this is best to capitalize on by developing search friendly strategies and hoping for the best from that. With #3 I’m slightly more flexible, but it’s still a good low risk / low commitment strategy.

With #4 I have no hope with SEO because the item is something that employs a hook, it’s not something they’d be looking for otherwise. With #5 it’s a bit of a mystery, but because I’m competing as a low value technology service there will be competition and there may be scrutiny.

With #1 it’s a high value proposition and it’s a competitive market in general so even locally I will be competing against much more established players.

But what about branding, social media, web 2.0 stuff, is it useless?

Not at all, it’s just now that we’re projecting beyond 3 months from now, then we can think about what social media strategies could work.

Immediately, I already have my established sites from which to launch my new online marketing niches services - design, blog promotion, ppc and seo. I believe a lot of my business for these services will come from traffic through my established sites and blogs, which is really more a product of the web property I’ve already built - my blogs, SEO authority, but social networks and the kurb brand also.

Determining factor: I can’t commit to ALL these ideas How much work is involved?

#3 the PPC and SEO consultancy gigs are at one end of the scale because although high value, and the end of the day it’s me who has to do the work. With #1 and #5 I can happily rely on my staff, as long as the task is managed and checked off with me. With #2, where I’m dependent on search, there will be a lot of effort involved in content creation, but the difference is I’m building as asset rather than selling my labour so the work I’m doing is not only building my assets value but also increasing the amount of revenue it’s bringing in.

But this is where #4 shines. A marketing system more than anything else, I just have to optimise and make adjustments where appropriate, it’s not likely to take me any more than an hour a week once I’ve spent a few hours on it - not unless I want to, of course!

THE FINAL ANALYSIS: EXPENSES + TIME COST vs. RETURNS

Also asset value, how valuable the asset will become through development.

Idea #1
Estimatedl Monthly Earnings (6 month projection): $1000
Monthly PPC / Marketing / Labour Expenses: $350
Time cost: medium
Asset Value: High

Idea #2
Potential Monthly Earnings (6 month projection): $1200
Monthly PPC Adwords + Marketing Expenses: $100
Time cost: High
Asset Value: Highest

Idea #3
Potential Monthly Earnings (6 month projection): $1500
Marketing Expenses: $100
Time cost: Highest
Asset Value: Low

Idea #4
Potential Monthly Earnings (6 month projection): $1200
Monthly PPC : $600
Time cost: Lowest
Asset Value: Lowest

Idea #5
Potential Monthly Earnings (6 month projection): $1200
Monthly PPC / Marketing / Labour Expenses: $500
Time cost: low
Asset Value: Medium

I’m sorry I’m going to have to break this down further in another post - coming up soon!

PPC ADWORDS MANAGEMENT / Consultancy

To most small business owners/managers who have never tried or don’t understand PPC and online advertising, Adwords may seem like a punt. But then I’ve never experienced poor ROI with PPC and adwords. I started of with fair results; and as I became more experienced, they just got better.

The only problem I had was getting too much business and having to turn my ads off to cope with all the orders! But adwords is so flexible and responsive, it’s the perfect advertising solution for those who want to be in control and have access to every detail.

What’s my estimate of ROI on PPC? Oh about %1000, give or take. I’d estimate the average cost of a sale through my disc media business with PPC at around $7-8; I would estimate the profit on each sale as averaging conservatively, around $100.

In the right hands, PPC management could literally change your business overnight.

Pay per click advertising on Google and other content networks is the fastest and most powerfully qualified option for your small business advertising spending in 2009. With as little as $20 p/week you can begin highly measured and precisely targeted campaigns with us on Google Adwords. Adwords is great for any service business or business offering high value products and is even more effective when targeting genders, age groups and cities/regions. Even amateurs can return positive ROI advertsing on Google through Adwords but experience in using the adwords PPC system can lead to radically enhanced results.

The greatest thing about adwords is that it delivers and as long as your website is of a decent standard, we can be collecting red hot sales leads by tomorrow!

The level of personal customisation and targeting offered by Adwords campaigns makes this the future of advertising. This is advertising 2.0. You make up your ad text, decide who sees it deteremined by location, and search word queries, how much you want to spend, per day, per month, per lead. You see you only pay when someone actually comes to your site through the ad.

If you don’t understand adwords completely, we can conduct and provide setailed reports on every aspect of our campaign, so you’re not missing out on one of the most powerful techniques available to small businesses today. I would suggest a budget of $50-$400 p/month for your PPC campaign.

Adwords is as solid as it comes for your marketing dollar. Like your website, these campaigns will grow as they are groomed and tweaked to optimised perfection.

Just briefly, in explaining some of the detailed understanding that is required to manage an adwords or ppc campaign online, you can appreciate why google is so powerful when they are able to engineer such powerful marketing and advertising systems as this. Part of that engineering is their commitment to creating valuable experience for their users, and they create value by favouring relevance in all things.

When this is applied to ppc campaigns, you might start to understand why detailed and exhaustive niche breakdowns, relentless testing of adsand analysis of data

PPC also has other uses beyond advertising. It can also be used effectively as a research tool to guage interest in new products or services, or to test markets and your competition.

Maybe I’ve found my calling, but I honestly find it hard to see how PPC advertising campaigns could possibly fail but I’m sure they do. Most likely it’s because as I’ve mentioned, the marketer is throwing money into marketing a website without a proven sales record.

It’s just important to note at this point that in my experience in my 3 years of dedicated internet marketing 0 using examples like myspace, things that seem to generate results quickly are not likely to remain so rewarding, so it’s important to be leveraging what you can until you can carry over into the next powerful new internet marketing strategies that become available.

Hi Matt From Kurb Here. Today I’m talking about the most important part of your online business and marketing: your website, and how to ensure you grow sales by developing a website that works from the start. Email Me, kurbpromo@gmail.com if you want to talk about website design and development from as little as US$297

Does your website look like a web 1.0 relic from the 90’s? Does your website involve potential customers, and help them get the information they need to make a purchase? Does your website give the impression that you’re running a professional operation and that the people behind the business are credible and committed?

Most small business marketing online simply doesnt succeed because they are not providing a compelling experience for consumers who visit their site. It doesn’t matter how much effort you put into marketing your site if your site is failing to address customers needs and create leads and sales.

The solution is to HIRE A WEB DESIGN SERVICES PROVIDER WITH ONLINE MARKETING EXPERIENCE.

We are happy to assist our clients by providing your websites domain name and hosting for your site, but getting your website established is only the beginning - to often, web designers are concerned with presentation without regard for user functionality and eliminating “friction” on your website between buyers and the sale.

Presentation must not only be functional but also unique. So many businesses are relying on cookie cutter template websites that all look the same and embody very little of the unique and positive characeteristics of the small business it represents.

Also, you can’t afford to see your website as a static platform to truly engage visitors, it must develop and evolve with your business. Continued commitment to developing website design and content that more effectively express your brand as well as help your customers to get the information they need to buy from you means they will be more confident to make purchases, and sales will grow.

WEB DESIGN, GRAPHIC DESIGN AND REGULAR CONSULTATIONS ON WEB DEVELOPMENT ARE ALL PART OF OUR 3 MONTH MARKETING PACKAGES FOR ARTISTS AND SMALL BUSINESS - Starting @ US$700

WHY CHOOSE KURB WEB DESIGN?

Practical: Websites designed to look professional as well as function effectively for sales and marketing purposes. Our websites are designed to evolve with your business.

Contemporary: Our designs are to a modern standard and we work with your themes/images for a unique feel

Convenient: We include domain and hosting in the price, everything you need to get online asap

Affordable: We are definitely in the lower price range of web designers and consistently provide superior quality s

BASIC WEB DESIGN WITH DOMAIN
AND ONE YEARS HOSTING
$NZ495
Includes up to 7 pages and blog set up
Domain + Hosting
Onsite SEO

If you already have a website that you’re happy with, you’re probably best looking at one of our 3 month small business marketing packages starting from $NZ1200 / US$700.

From that point we can begin discussing how to best develop the web assets you have. And I by “assets” I mean that as an experienced online entrepreneur, you must understand that your first website is only the beginning of your entrepreneurial journey and success online means expanding your portfolio of web properties and assets.

If you don’t have a website this is going to become a big priority. You can build a presence online without it, but conducting business in the way you see fit is best done on your own web property. Using a social media presence instead of a website is only going to make you look unprofessional and uncommitted.

Again, for website marketing purposes, it is important for you to get your web properties established - even if just a simple 1 page site with contact details, it’s just

Often, if you already have a website that I’m looking to develop as part of our marketing plan, I’m going to need to be able to interact with the “webmaster” - whoever administers the site. Not in principal to make drastic changes but most importantly to improve it’s functionality and effectiveness. if making basic and regular changes to your website every week is a hassle, then it’s going to become a problem, so when starting from scratch we anticipate that and develop the site with that in mind.

KURB SMALL BUSINESS MARKETING TOP INTERNET MARKETING STRATEGIES FOR 2009:

10: Community Building

Check small business marketing strategies here or email: kurbpromo@gmail.com

1: WEB DESIGN + DEVELOPMENT: Most small business websites don’t succeed because they don’t provide a compelling experience for consumers who visit. You can’t afford to see your website as a static platform. It must develop at least every month. Continued commitment to developing website design and content that more effectively express your brand as well as help your customers to get the information they need to buy from you means they are confident to make purchases, and sales grow. If your website doesn’t make sales then online marketing won’t grow your business.

2: PPC MANAGEMENT / ADWORDS: Pay per click advertising on Google and other content networks is the fastest and most powerfully qualified option for advertising spending in 2009. With as little as $20 p/week you can begin highly measured and precisely targeted campaigns with us on Google Adwords. Adwords is great for any service business or business offering high value products and is even more effective when targeting genders, age groups and cities/regions. Even amateurs can return positive ROI advertsing on Google through Adwords but experience in using the PPC can lead to radically enhanced results.

3: BLOG PROMOTION: Blogging is still a top strategy for small business marketing as long as it doesn’t interfere with normal operations. A well maintained blog developed over months has so many advantages in reinforcing your whole online marketing effort from SEO, customer service, website development, the work put in to build a lively and dynamic blog will never be wasted. We provide blog set up, blog design, blog promotion and can even create content and run your blog for you.

4: ONLINE VIDEO: Online video is yet to flex it’s muscles as the new power in online marketing. Buyers seek engagement, trust and authority with products, service providers and brands. They seek stories that give commodities and their brands value and credibility and video is the most powerful way to engage people and quickly create trust, authority as well as impact. Businesses using videos will have a much greater opportunity to appeal to visitors, and more importantly online video is only going to get bigger and continue to steal more influence from traditional TV.

5: SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION AND MARKETING: Search engine marketing is still the most powerful marketing technique accessible to entrepreneurs on small budgets, but precisely for this reason that SEO finds itself at #5 on this list. SEO is competitive. SEO is a challenge for new websites. Ranking highly in Google for your favoured keyword search terms is better than any advertising and would give you unmatched access to your market. But the results of SEO work can vary. A Successful SEO campaign takes research, it requires a lot of tedious tasks, and that of course costs. I will underline how powerfully effective our SEO can be but you must have the patience and commitment for it if you are in a competitive niche.

6: EMAIL MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING: Maintaining relationsips with a client database through email marketing is still one of the most powerful ways to generate dependable recurring revenue. We provide professional email management solutions for all our clients, but those who are interested in email marketing should know you will have to build your contacts first through other online marketing efforts, most often a blog, and then maintain your mail out, which is going to need content. Once you can graduate to greater levels of automated email marketing, you can implement powerful systems to create wealth with minimum maintenance.

7: SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING: Anyone who tells you they are a social media expert had better be ready to back that up with proof. Social Media is not a strategy for ROI. The aim of social media is to build meaningful relationships with engaged social media users who have the power to build a powerful, authoritative and authentic word of mouth. Just like blogs, building a strong social media presence has many benefits for small businesses, but must remain practical in terms of the bottom line.

8: Article Marketing: Article Marketing leverages written content for exposure that can be syndicated far and wide to provide exposure to click through traffic as well as considerable SEO benefits. Article syndication as well as freelance article creation is offered as part of our general online marketing strategies. If you don’t have time to build your web presence, it’s better we create monthly content for you then having no new content at all.

9:Viral Marketing: More powerful than spreading ideas is building an idea that spreads itself. Whether a video or other media, the essntial concept is the power of an idea to proliferate by way of online sharing. The success of a Viral Marketing campaign is never assured and taking risks to put forward powerful branding messages or leverage powerful value propositions that engage so deeply that it spreads online or through word of mouth is a longshot but always has the potential to be outrageously successful with a bit of character and flair.

10: Community building: Again building a community around your brand makes long term commitment and personal contribution unavoidable. You can’t just create community based loyalty to a brand overnight. Certainly, strategies to nurture your community and provide functionality by way of a forum or other platforms to encourage different kinds of interaction and user driven content creation around your brand can be provided easily and inexpensively, but early on there will need to be a dedicated effort to inject activity into the community space. This can be more time consuming and long range than many small businesses are prepared for.

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION AND MARKETING - KURB AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND

If you go to www.google.CO.NZ and search “online promotion” guess who’s number #1? Kurb Promotions.

Don’t ask how but we’re good. Google will inevitably account for no less than half the traffic to your site, and higher google rankings means more traffic, which makes it one of the most important parts of your marketing. Most people are paying twice as much for half the result.

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION AND MARKETING:

Search engine marketing is still the most powerful marketing technique accessible to entrepreneurs on small-medium budgets, but SEO is competitive.

What you can expect to pay: US$2000-4000

What we charge: NZ$1200 (US$700)

You can save massively using a quality, trusted service here in New Zealand
Yes we use outsourced workers. But our workers are trusted full time employees and we provide detailed verified reports of all of the SEO work we do.

Email me, Matt Turner at Kurb Promotions on:
kurbpromo@gmail.com
+64 (0)27 6848250

This from an established US internet marketing consultancy:

When we work with a business owner to improve a site’s rankings, our standard practice is to sign them up for a six month agreement where we agree on a few keywords that would be beneficial to their business, then we go about improving the rankings for those keywords over a six month period.

The client will typically be making an up front investment of anywhere between $500 and $1,000 followed by monthly recurring payments of anywhere between $250 and $500 (depending on the difficulty of the keywords they’re targeting).

Put simply, SEO, search engine optimisation - the art of being #1 on Google for your chosen keywords, is a massive part of online marketing because most of your website traffic will come from search engines.

In New Zealand that is almost overwhelmingly the Google search engine that is used in 92% of searches. New Zealand is also a relatively soft market where SEO efforts can be suprisingly effective where competitors have become complacent in maintaining their SEO efforts.

SEO AND WHAT WE DO

Google is influenced in two ways - by both the quality and quantity of written content you make available and the quantity and quality of backlinks created to your site from other sites, and our SEO service covers both these tasks, as well as carrying out the crucial research in the initial stages to determine your most valuable and competitive keyword terms, which we provide full reports to the client as part of our service.

Distributing and sharing as much content furnished with links back to your site as you can make available is the most effective way to dramatically increase your search rank, send your brand around the world and bring traffic to your website.

Our service determines the most powerful search terms, creates the content and then builds relevant backlinks areound it to send your site to the top google rankings in your niche.

Make sure it can convert sales before you start spending on marketing - spend on development before you buy a whole lot of exposure for something you haven’t made an effective effort to sell.

The biggest mistake with most online businesses is they haven’t made the effort to engage with their website. It really doesn’t take much, but it’s more than most small business websites I see can manage.

Sales copy on your site must be compelling and persuasive. It must connect. I’m just launching a whole bunch of sites now, and I’m writing the copy.

Now that I’ve warmed up I need to get into a tight online marketing headspace, thinking about how I can farm this high quality content out.

Because this is all important sales stuff, I’m putting in the extra effort to make it really tight.

Really thinking out the value, that is, thinking about what exactly it is people who are thinking about using my services need to know.

Right now I’m working on a “top 10 internet marketing strategies for small businesses in 2009″ post.

Each of the strategies are of course, offered as part of our small business marketing service, but this way I’m providing extra value not only by illustrating each of the services we provide but I’m actually ranking them in terms of what I see as most important.

Oh so you want a sneak peek at the list?

1: Website Development

2: Google Adwords / PPC

3: Blogging

4: Online Video

5: SEO

6: Email Management / Marketing

7: Article Marketing

8: Social Media Marketing

9: Viral Marketing

10: Community Building

Unfortunately I’ve got quite into it and it’s too long for a sales intro.

Lots of information is good, but it’s also good to allow visitors the soonest opportunity they’ll need to contact you. So I will have to summarize it for the sales copy edit. But, working hard on this copy, I’m able to extrapolate the content distribution strategy, let’s have a list:

- Because this is high quality content, I’m not so concerned about Google’s duplicate content penalties. I won’t get any google advantages by straight copying and pasting this post to at least 6, and more likely a good two dozen of my other blogs, simply because high value content has the ability to bring in leads, so I need to leverage it as much as I can.

- The post will work great as “top 10 list” style article. I will send the piece to an assistant to rewrite as an article (toning down the sales stuff and self references as well as minimising the duplication penalties) and then use an article marketing strategy to syndicate the content onto hundreds of article directories and, as a high quality article, probably hundreds more

- each category will form the basis of a whole page/post on that service with a breakdown of individual pricing for each service should it be required.

- I can take this piece, which I developed for small business purposes and reframe the content for other niches. The valuable content and key statement still stays relevant I just have to change it up so it more focused on my music marketing audience.
It just goes to show, just like a product or experience in service you provide or a website, when you’ve put all that effort into developing something special, even if it’s just a bit of sales copy, you’ve got to leave something left to make sure you’re taking advantage of it for the most exposure, to get the most reward out of it.

I’m deep in a growth and development phase in my all over entrepreneurial strategy and now that things are coming into focus, the time for large scale conceptualization is over and it’s all down to the execution.

It’s like a blog I was just reading on ittybiz sometimes it’s easier just to hire a marketing consultant like me than get off your butt and do the work you know needs to be done. But if you are me, then there is no option but to get into it.

Often I approach strategy through blogging but tonight I had to say sure, do a blog post on small business promotion if it gets you in an entrepreneurial and helps you map out your thoughts . . . but don’t think that blogging is a reliable strategy to build market interest short term when I want to make these new business projects profitable in a month.

I have a LOT of persuasive copywriting to do.

Not only will I need highly persuasive copy on the landing or home page, which often involves scrapping the old version, pulling out the best parts and replacing most of it with more compelling yet simple ideas and concepts that illustrate and engage prospects with our marketing message . . .

but also, probably have to write at least 10 500 word articles related to each sub topic or product all interlinked nicely.

Just as vistors to the site will be looking for as much information as they need on the services they require, so too will Google and other search engines be looking for a critical mass of content that shows that your site is relevant and provides authoritative information.

Once content is in place, or even while I’m just preparing it, we can begin Search Engine Optimisation and marketing, there is a range of small business marketing strategies I could implement but I’m only starting with the best strategy that an provide long term benefit and that is SEO.

Though I think there is a lot to be said for putting your business together as an operating model before you get into marketing, strategies such as SEO, blogging and other social media strategies, it’s not absolutely fundamental, because these are long term strategies that will grow along with your business.

But you see I’m very eager to get my new online businesses up and running so it is fundamental in this case to get all the basics right.

If a customer can’t come to a page and get the information and assurance they need that the service you are providing is of a professional standard then they are simply going to move on.

So that means providing both persuasive arguments and illustrating benefits - all your stock and standard copywriting stuff, but with out professional presentation and design then my brand image will let down an
So without a lot of exception, the rudiments of successful small business marketing is having a website that actually adresses your customers needs.

Are you going to make yourself accesible by providing clear methods of contacting your business and providing some idea or method of allowing your customers or clients to understand how much you charge and for what? Do you need a FAQ?

Should you use your own name? Should you make your phone number available and your email?
Should you provide exhaustive pricing information?

There’ll be time to get into details soon but for now it’s just about preparing those basics

What is your product?

Why is it any good? How does it address the buyers concerns, their “pain”?

Who is it for? What connections can you make about these types of purchasers?

How can it be purchased and are potential buyers able to carry out the transaction through the site or do they have to contact you? Are you making that easy for them?

What expectations can buyers have that should be unequivocally met by your business?

There’s no point calling up a marketing consultant like me and dialling in a marketing campaign involving ppc, seo, blogging, emails, social media etc. when the most important thing you can do to improve your small business marketing efforts is to make sure your website is a place where people actually want to buy things, from you.

Once you know that your website is a place where people are being introduced to your brand and that your onsite branding and marketing actually works, mainly by developing the content - whether that’s just starting with written text and images with a view to offering audio and video from your site - AND by using graphic design to bring your website to a standard of presentation that is offered by your competition and what is perceived by your target market as having quality in it’s visual appeal.

In short if your website looks like a bombsite or a relic from the 90’s, if I can’t understand why I need your product or service, if the actual people who represent the business are hiding behind the brand rather than representing it . . . then nobody a online small business marketing campaign brings to your site is going to feel like buying anything.
